There's no question that South Pasadena has some of the best public schools in the region. Hard work by administrators, teachers and staff have made the five city schools what they are now- the envy of other districts.

But there are still challenges ahead. We need to continue to improve our standards at the high school, along with a renewed emphasis on safety. We need to reconfirm our vision for an improved middle school, and elementary schools must continue reaching all students- those challenged by language and those challenged in the classroom.

My experience in education will help me as a SPUSD board member. My background includes four years teaching a regional occupational program where I was honored with a "Program of Excellence" award by the California Department of Education, and two years as graduate teaching assistant at USC while working on my Master's degree. For the past several years, I've volunteered at the district's annual Fun Fair and last year joined the board of directors of the South Pasadena Educational Foundation. Needless to say, I've also learned a lot about education from my two boys now at Monterey Hills Elementary School.

I want my experience to help continue South Pasadena's tradition of great schooling. I welcome your vote November 4.
