Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Westside Union Elementary School District

I have been a resident of the Antelope Valley since 1986. My husband and I have been married since 1976. I have been actively involved in the community and in education since 1990. As a full time teacher, I am fully aware of the implications of the State budget crunch and how it affects children and their education. I have received extensive school budget training through CTA.

My husband and I have two grown sons who have graduated from public schools, and I have a granddaughter who is currently in a pre-kindergarten class in a public school program. For a short time, one of my sons was in a private school, so I am also aware of some of the issues that are driving some families away from our public school system.

As V.P. of my local Education Association, I have been an active participant in dealing with all the issues that affect public education. I regularly attend training to stay on the cutting edge of education. I also attend a yearly weekend seminar to stay abreast of all legal and legislative aspects of education.

I believe my training, education, and experience make me well qualified to sit as a Governing Board Member. I will do my best to serve the best interests of students, teachers, and parents and do my part to maintain a fiscally responsible school district.
