Smart Voter Full Biography for Se-Yao Hsu

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; San Marino Unified School District

Se-Yao was born in 1952 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, ROC. He received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tatung Institute of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan in 1974. He came to the USA as a student in 1978. He received his MS degree from the George Washington University and Ph.D. from UC Irvine both in Structural engineering. He worked for Tetra Tech of Pasadena as a research engineer for seven years from 1980 to 1987. Then he joined the Corps of Engineers in 1987 and work as a project manager until now.

His family has resided in San Marino for 15 years. They enjoy the beautiful environment of this community and their children have benefited from the excellent public education of San Marino. his wife and he have volunteered in different Schools for many years as their children grew up and changed from Carver School to Huntington School and to the High School. Presently, their son, Teddie is a senior at UCLA and their daughter, Mindy is a senior at SMHS. They always want to give something back to the community because they have received so much from it.

He has been actively serving the community since 1996 when San Marino schools started the campus modernization projects and he was selected to serve as Site Design Committee member of the High School. Then he joined Chinese Club and served as treasurer in 1997, MAF chair in 1998 and President in 1999. He was also the Electricity Committee Chair of Grad Night of 1999. From 2000 to 2003, he served as trustee of the Schools Foundation and Chinese school committee member and he served as Principal of the Chinese School in 2001. He presently volunteer as associate trustee for the Schools Foundation, webmaster for the City Club, Trustee of the Old Mill Foundation, member of the Tournament of Roses, Trustee appointed by the City Council representing City of San Marino to the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District, Advisory Committee chair of the Chinese Club, and he is also Vice President of Southern California Council of Chinese Schools.

As you can see from his record that he has been actively and continuously serving the community and he enjoyed very much in doing it. Now, he is willing to extend his services to all citizens of the San Marino School District by seeking a School Board seat in the upcoming Nov. 4th election. If he is elected, then he will be able to continue to provide his top quality services to the community with dedication and enthusiasm to maintain and enhance the excellence of public schools of San Marino. In closing he would like to use a quote from one of the school board members: "His intention is simple, his motivation is pure, he only wants to help."
