Modernization Bond Mismanagement

By Bill Cooper

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Manhattan Beach Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The school board had misplaced priorities evidenced by the results.
Like many taxpayers, I felt the bond measures made good economic sense. As a teacher and a taxpayer, I am outraged with the results. It is unconscionable that two administrative buildings were built BEFORE a pair of classroom buildings. What does this say about the board's priorities? We need an outside, independent auditor with the authority to get accurate and complete information. We must find out where we are and why we are here before we can determine where we are going. We must reexamine our lease agreements, look to the district-owned properties for possible revenue, and perhaps even consider leasing the new district offices to private firms.
