Position Statement

By Sarah Gonzales

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Hayward Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
  • Excellence and Accountability; Honesty and Competence Experienced Community and Educational Leader
As a candidate for Hayward Unified School Board, I am aware that we are faced with the difficult challenge of meeting increasing student needs with diminishing resources. I will actively focus on three main areas: selecting a competent superintendent committed to the Hayward community; approving and monitoring a budget that demonstrates our belief that children come first; and implementing policies that reflect community values and legal requirements. Through leadership and accountability, we can ensure that our schools produce excellent outcomes for all children. To accomplish this, we must promote student-centered instruction; address school safety; encourage parent/guardian participation; support teachers, administrators and support personnel; and build community partnerships. With my community commitment and school experience, I will provide leadership to make all Hayward schools powerful places for learning. Elect me to the Board of Trustees for Hayward `s schools and I will be accountable for your trust.

As a school board member, I will actively support:

1. Quality programs that produce equitable academic results for ALL.
2. Policies that ensure that all students are safe in school.
3. Strong family advocacy so that every child has support of caring.
4. Parental choice and participation in identifying sound programs for their children.
5. A budget that supports our goals for academic achievement for all students.
6. A superintendent who makes Hayward her/his home and who is committed to the Hayward community.
