My first goal as Governor will be to save jobs from leaving California, which will make sure that California keeps the tax revenue from companies and employees that fund our schools, our hospitals, and our transportation system while helping to reduce our budget deficit.
We need to put the jobs "welcome sign" out and jumpstart California job creation. It's not good enough for California to hold onto the jobs we have, we must attract new high-paying employment to the state. California is the costliest state in the nation to do business. The cost of doing business in California is 40% higher than Texas and Texas just surpassed California as the nation's leading exporter. I plan on saving jobs by rolling back job killing laws and opposing legislation with higher fees, taxes and expanded bureaucratic regulation. In particular, California's broken workers' compensation system must be fixed. Next, I plan on attracting the best kind of jobs to California by encouraging relocation and business creation. Incentives will be targeted at the best kind of jobs: those that pay well, offer healthcare benefits, those that increase manufacturing and production, those that improve infrastructure and the environment, and those that encourage innovation. California has the resources; we have highly skilled workers, we have a great higher educational system, we have innovative entrepreneurs and California is a great place to live. We need to leverage our strengths and remove the ties that are holding us back.
