Why Californians should vote for me and my stand on issues.

By Dorene Musilli

Candidate for Recall of Gray Davis; State of California

Why should Californians vote for me?

The current crisis in California is focused on the State's budget deficit and the budget process. As a business owner who has employed over 250 employees, coupled with my 21 years experience as an elected representative, I gained a reputation as a fiscal conservative and budget "watchdog". I consistently opposed budgets that were not fiscally sound. I will bring this "hands on" experience to Sacramento starting immediately with a 15% cut in the Governor's and Legislatures personal budgets.

I pledge to balance the budget by capping and controlling revenues and expenditures and by developing additional revenues. I will require multi year budgets and will ask each department for a performance based budget to justify its existence and for each dollar spent. I will work to clean up the Workman's comp mess I will implement open bidding for government services creating a business friendly environment to entice new businesses to California and to keep our existing businesses happy.

We need a cohesive legislature, not one divided on all budget issues. A committee or commission would be formed whereby each portion of the legislature appoints two or three members to participate. The governor and her advisors would meet to study and agree to implement all aspects of the budget.

Our bond credit rating must improve. We were the best. We will be the best again.

I am willing to be honest and say that it is unrealistic to believe that no new taxes are necessary or forthcoming. The revenue shortfall would be made up by supporting up to a 1% sales tax increase, the "fairest" tax of all as food and housing are not taxed. The tax increase would be rescinded as soon as the budget is in balance.

My Position On Other Issues:

Top Three priorities: Budget, Budget, Education

The Recall: I support the recall. Governor Davis failed to disclose the true condition of our state finances. If he remains in office his uncontrolled spending will put our state into further financial ruin. Californians deserve better.

With a performance-based budget, healthcare, welfare, education and other crucial issues are on their way to resolution. Everything falls into place. Fraud and incompetence are eliminated.

I am pro-life except in the cases of rape, incest, risk to mother's life and abnormal fetuses.

I am beholden to no one, i.e. special interest groups, unions, etc.

On gun control. I am a firm believer in the 2nd amendment.

Our transportation and roadway infrastructure would receive the monies from gasoline taxes that are now in the general fund.

I support the death penalty and the "Three Strikes" law with some modification.

I am a good listener, I research issues, I seek advice, and I weigh the pros & cons. I question, I make decisions, and I stand by the decisions I made.

I am personally funding my campaign.
