Smart Voter Full Biography for Craig Winkelman

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Covina

This information is provided by the candidate

I have worked in the Printing Industry for nearly thirty-years the last ten -years as a manager in a large Publicly owned Financial Printing Company. As a manager, my responsibilities are to ensure our operations are meeting or exceeding our customers needs by effectively utilizing the resources we have at our disposal.

This requires working within a budget and encouraging a collaborative team effort between dozens of individuals to achieve a universal objective of satisfying customer's and stockholders.

As a first time candidate for City Council, I am optimistic about helping to accomplish the same for Covina. Although I am entering this contest with limited political experience, I am confident of the leadership principles I bring from my business experience.

I believe that:

·Good leaders must first be good followers who understand how teams are developed and work.
·A good team is usually wiser than any single individual.
·Focus on what must be done to accomplish a goal is far more productive than on reasons why a goal cannot be accomplished.

I believe that the experience factor often regarded as a significant benefit for ensuring the success of a candidate can be misleading. In the past several years, I have hired, trained, supervised, and managed scores of employees. During that time I have found without question that the most significant attributes for success are an individual's sense of commitment, personal integrity, desire to learn, and initiative.

Experience may help to get you out of the blocks a little quicker however it can often be as much a hindrance as an advantage particularly if it impedes one's ability to explore new and creative ideas. Character will always ensure true success.
