Integrity Confidence Independence

By Frederic D. Windisch

Candidate for Council Member; City of Bellflower

This information is provided by the candidate
I have extracted the following from the candidate statement, and some amplifying remarks. I will regard it an honor for any person examining these comments to contact me, to reinforce my commitments and justify your beliefs.
Every working man and or woman is a column in the building of our economy. This not only comes from how we market ourselves, our area and resources, but in the willingness to seek openings and innovations.

A local resident for more than 40 years, a sound and safe feeling retains me in this area. As a homeowner, craftsman and investor there are manifold possibilities; but it is important to renew opportunities for all of our community. Leadership needs to be formed in the interests of all persons for the city to gain benefit. With nearly 20 years military experience, this kind of guidance is second nature.

Let's add to the usual education or elderly issues; school conditions, housing and a focus toward new threats to public safety. Enhance recreation, volunteerism, with after school participation. Expand the Friendship Square concept, perhaps in the form of a Town Center.

In the past weeks there have been many opportunities to interact with the voting public. All of these have been a rewarding experience, with the support for a successful campaign growing each time. It became clear on December 6th, the day I was certified to run in this election, that residents of this area are not heard by those persons in the positions that should be listening. As I introduced myself one by one to individuals, we often conversed about something that troubled them here. The issues were both recent and long past, but a common thread runs through them right to this minute. A cross section would include;

  • Codes that seem to be unevenly enforced.
  • The unbroken criminal element.
  • Landlords that fail to maintain property.
  • The elite attitude of those who have lost support of the public in general but are kept in place by special interests.
  • An alarming reduction of Bellflower stature when compared to cities of the immediate area and the increasing negative image that generates.

I've been asked what brought me to this race. I returned to this area in June of 2002 after finding a simple neighborhood with truly enjoyable residents. They represent a wide ethnic, economic and social spectrum. Particularly striking is the fact that this is not at all evident in the way they speak, act or react about each other. While not perfect, it is a wonderful example. Just weeks before our marriage, when my future wife and I were greeted as prospective owners, this mood impressed us. I began attending Council meetings and learning more about the city. On November 29, a spokesperson asked if my interests included government. I answered yes, but that I am not affiliated with any party or politically motivated in that manner. My votes have always gone to the candidate or issue regardless of party. This declaration of independence brought a request that I accept what amounts to a nomination. After confirming with my Commanding Officer that there were no conflicts with interests or obligations, I decided to take the confidence of these people as far as I can.

The most important quality I offer then would be integrity. I function in an environment unhampered by special interests other than what would be appropriate and honest, and beneficial to as many as possible. I will continue to reject any advances by self serving groups with so many negative aspects. My best strengths in this capacity are personal communication, a proven willingness to serve and the ability to speak and think from the input of all citizens.
