Candidate for Council Member; City of West Covina

This information is provided by the candidate
I'm running for city council because I believe we must have plan for our future and seize all of our opportunities in order to achieve our goals for the future.
Quality of Life - Our home values as well as our ability to attract businesses are dependent upon quality of life issues. In addition to public safety, we must concentrate on clean, safe, well-maintained streets, neighborhoods, and parks as well as clean air and water, public trees and landscaping,. Beautification is serious business. It is critical to building a true "community", not only for our neighborhoods and families, but also for business development. For reasons of safety, health, scenic beauty, economic development and civic pride, we must commit ourselves to this issue.

Business Approach to Government - Fiscal decisions should be made with the fundamental understanding that city funds are public funds, and City Hall must be judicious with its expenditures. Our revenues must be accurately forecast, and our expenditures closely monitored to achieve a balanced budget and the highest bond rating. Expenditures must not be made on Council member pet projects unless it fits our City's long term goal and General Plan.

Coordinated Street, Traffic and Infrastructure Repair - Street repairs and improvements are necessary, but they should be performed as part of a consistent, coordinated transportation and maintenance system. We cannot afford to neglect the infrastructure of our city, or we will pay more in the future for our neglect today. Contractors should be given incentives to complete their work ahead of schedule and should pay the City when they are behind.

As a Planning Commissioner, I have shown I can work together with people having many different interests and build consensus among them while maintaining my beliefs and respecting those of others. I understand that municipal codes should be clear, concise and reasonable, and that they should be applied to all in a fair and consistent manner.

I am strongly committed to helping others have a direct say in governmental decisions that affect them. I'll work hard to increase resident participation and empowerment in city policy-making.
