Board's Usual Grants Not so Usual

Most O.C. supervisors have each sprinkled $75,000 a year to nonprofits. But a board vacancy makes tie votes likely, blocking funds.

Blocking Grants Erodes Public-Private Accords

Re "Board's Usual Grants Not so Usual," Jan. 12:

I am surprised that the writer of this article did not question the candidates on their positions in this matter. Logically speaking, the voters will want to know where they stand on this. I am against blocking these funds on principle, since it further demonstrates a gradual erosion of cooperation between the public and private sectors. I am a firm believer that the public and private sectors can and should work together.

These grants represent a very small part of the county budget, and it is money that came from the community and is being returned to the community for very good and effective causes. I especially admire the work of the YMCA and YWCA, and I support the work they do.
