Questions & Answers

1. While serving on the bench, do you believe you have a role in bringing important legal or judicial issues before the public or the legislature? What should your role be?

Yes. I announce and explain my decisions from the bench and in detailed memorandum opinions stating simply and clearly my legal analysis, findings, reasoning, and conclusions. I write for legal publications and make myself available for presentations at community groups on legal problems and topics of the day. I encourage the use of question and answer sessions at public meetings since they better engage the audience and address its specific concerns. Judges should continue to work with the legislature to improve our laws and legal system. Legislators need and appreciate our experience working in the court system.
