Questions & Answers

1. What statewide changes would you recommend in voting procedures or mechanisms?

I have lobbied the Ohio General Assembly and both houses of Congress for increased funding and standards for new voting machines. I held an Elections Summit to examine Ohio's voting procedures, which led to the passage of HB 5. This codified many procedures and created the Election System Study Committee, which I chaired. From that committee, I led a group of reformers that recommended the legislature adopt three basic standards for all future purchases of voting machines: They must prevent over-voting, have a second-chance option for voters to review their ballot and create a paper audit trail.
