Education

By Alex Escobell

Candidate for Council Member; City of Oxnard

This information is provided by the candidate
Educating our youth is the present's way to assure a better tomorrow for all the members of a community and nation.
There is no more important function of a government than to be involved in the education of its youth and all its lifelong learners. As the U.S. Constitution states that we are to "insure domestic tranquility", how better than to educate and prepare our youth through education? All levels of government must be involved in assuring the best education for its constituents. How would I affect this challenge as an elected official? Beginning with greater communication between the various sectors of our society that will benefit from prepared workers. Below is a list of ways in which I would assure that our government is more involved in education.

1. Business to school interaction and communication regarding the needs of that business.

2. Councilmember regularly scheduled visits to neighboring schools in order to view the conditions and progress of that site.

3. Commendations on a regular basis of high performing schools and their staff.

4. School presentations to the city council regarding their activities and performances in the areas of

curriculum , fine arts and public speaking.

5. Rewards of a monetary nature to families of high achieving students for the purpose of furthering their e
ducation and training for future employment in our city.

We have reached a new era in government and school collaboration and cooperation. Avenues in which this relationship can be developed are necessary. I will be involved in that development of better and newer ways to get our government involved in the day to day operations of our school system.
