By Katherine H. "Kathy" Smith

Candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction; State of California

This information is provided by the candidate
It's not a matter of more money for education, but rather what we do with what we have
In Anaheim, Kathy Smith is running a different sort of campaign for non-partisan California Superintendent of Public Instruction. As president of the Anaheim Union High School District, the second largest high school district in the state, she has:

• Raised the GPA for graduation to a 2.0 (up from a dismal
1.75). • She cleaned up the schools. Our kids now even have clean restrooms! Kathy started the movement toward academic attire. Behavior and grades have improved in every school adopting voluntary uniforms. • A Moment of Silence, observed in all the schools in her district gives our kids a minute each day for quiet reflection. . By creating a safe, clean, academic environment, students from the private sector are returning to our public schools.

What happens in California can affect the rest of the country, so it is important that we create an environment in which our California kids can learn. It's not a matter of more money for education, but rather what we do with what we have.
