For more than two decades, Donna Gerber has worked to create healthier communities and improve our quality of life. As our Assemblywoman, she will put that hands-on experience to work in Sacramento. For more information, see Donna's web page.

Smarter Growth and Easier Commutes

Donna Gerber led Contra Costa County's pioneering effort to move the urban limit line in order to protect 22 square miles of open space in the Tassajara Valley and East Contra Costa from sprawl and development. Now, she is leading a community-based "smart growth" plan for a housing, office, and retail village at the Pleasant Hill BART Station.

  • In the Legislature, Gerber will fight to preserve open space, extend BART and other transit, build affordable housing near transit centers, and reduce commute times.

Affordable Health Care

After two hospitals closed in Contra Costa County, the remaining emergency rooms were overcrowded and understaffed. Gerber spearheaded the effort that re-opened Kaiser hospital to serve the community.

  • In the Assembly, Gerber will be a tough advocate for quality, accessible, and affordable health care. She will push for community health centers, affordable health insurance, and patient protections from HMOs.

Safe and Effective Schools

As County Supervisor, Gerber provided county funding for school resource offices, supported a public/private partnership to raise funds for high school facilities, and strongly supported statewide and local school bonds. She has been recognized for her efforts with the PTA's Honorary Service Award.

  • In Sacramento, Gerber will protect school funding during the budget crisis and fight for school funding equalization so schools in our district receive their fair share of state education money.
