Voluntary, community-based solutions work better than government.
Individuals, churches, civic groups, and other private charities once responsibly cared for our neighbors in need.

When someone's barn burned down, neighbors used to come together to pitch in and rebuild it. But that was before government grew to consume half of our national income and dominate our lives. Now people are so busy earning enough money to pay their taxes and have something left over for their families that they don't always have enough money and time to help their neighbors in need. And we've come to expect the government to handle any problem that comes along, even though we know that government more often aggravates problems than fixes them.

Huge federal tax burdens have disconnected and disempowered us by choking off funding for effective, community-based safety nets, replacing them with ineffective, inefficient, costly government bureaucracies.

I will greatly reduce federal taxes and phase out these federal programs to reinvigorate voluntary, community-based solutions and restore our sense of community.
