Why I Have No Statement in the Voters Election Handbook

By David Rosner

Candidate for Board Member; Sequoia Healthcare District

This information is provided by the candidate
I filed a candidate statement with the county elections office and paid the $1,050 fee. I withdrew the statement when I was told I had to pay an additional $1,600 to publish the statement in two foreign languages, under a Federal mandate.

Lawful immigration renews the vitality of this country, and new citizens strengthen our nation; but, to become a citizen, one must able to speak English, and a candidate for a distinctly local and uncompensated office should not have to campaign in other languages.

Because I want to increase public awareness about the way the Sequoia Healthcare District is run and the two Grand Jury reports that sharply criticize the District, I was willing to pay $1,050 of my own money to run for the board. I cannot justify paying this additional $1,600, nor can I ask others to pay it for me.

There are nine names on the ballot for three board seats. The media is providing significant coverage of the central issue of the race. District officials have finally been flushed out and forced to respond to the public. Previously they were dismissive of Grand Jury reports, in what I consider an arrogant manner, responding with flip comments, partial answers and misinformation.

I seek to raise public awareness about the Sequoia District, the tax it levies (based on a hospital it no longer owns, operates or maintains) and the private philanthropy it runs. If elected, I will work hard. That is my nature, and I ask you to vote for me.
