Smart Voter Official Statement for Samuel Rasheed

Candidate for
City Council; City of East Palo Alto

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

SAMUEL RASHEED

Education and Qualifications:

My sole purpose in seeking political office is public service and to support the positive initiatives of fellow councilmembers.

My decision to run for a seat on the East Palo Alto City council was not a spur of the moment decision, but rather one that was well thought out and discussed with my family, friends and fellow citizens. I'm talking about citizens like you and I that have become frustrated with the narrow spectrum of views on the city council. My candidacy offers the opportunity for accountability, new ideas and diverse participation. I believe in politics controlled by those whose lives are most affected by the outcome of political decisions.

As your CouncilMan I will be dedicated to:

Working for the rights and needs of all the citizens of East Palo Alto.

Seeking affordable housing for young families and seniors.

Restoring the trust of citizens in local government.

Audits of city departments to eliminate wasteful spending.

Supporting programs to eliminate the increasing overcrowding and visual blight.

The televising of City Council and Planning Commission meetings.

I ask for you vote on November 5, 2002
