GENERAL STATEMENT

I am a product my community's struggle to re-take our rightful position in this world. I recognize that I stand on the shoulders of our citizens, my parents, my elders, our teachers and supporters. I realize that East Palo Alto has suffered too long under poor leadership with little concern for the well being of the majority who are decent law-abiding citizens. It is time for that situation to stop and for the needs of those who live here to become the priority. Our community is rapidly changing. Who will protect your interests and rights? The answer is A. Peter Evans

MAIN GOALS FOR MY CAMPAIGN:

1. REDEVELOPMENT that works for the benefit of our community members and not a continuation of pushing people out of their homes and further overwhelming us with increased traffic. We need community control of the means and processes for developing East Palo Alto. If elected, I intend to seek a complete evaluation of what we have done so far, the successes and failures and what needs to be done next. This process is crucial for us to be able to map a more beneficial future. A. Peter Evans would never vote to sell our land or lease it for 55 years for $1 per year.

2. Our community was deficient in OPEN SPACE, PARKS AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FACILITIES before we incorporated in 1983. That situation continues to this day and is getting worse, not better. If we are to be a viable city, our resource management must become a priority. If elected, I intend to move this topic up on the action list. I believe Open Space and Resource Management are more than topics in the General Plan of a City. They are means for providing healthy, creative, and enjoyable programs for all ages within the City of East Palo Alto. Without parks and open space we will continue to limp along with few programs for any age group.

Development Agreements are usual avenues for curing deficiencies of various communites through Re-development Agencies. Our Redevelopment Agency has not made community improvement a required cost for developers. Therefore in the past in East Palo Alto the developers have won and we, the residents have lost. I intend to change that.

3. AFFORDABLE HOUSING is a hot topic all over the Peninsula. Our community is also in need of increasing our affordable housing stock without pushing long time residents out. The answer does not lie in filling each available lot with as many housing units as can fit, irrespective of any other issues - open space, schools, traffic, parking etc. With proper planning East Palo Alto can tackle the affordable housing situation fairly and equitably. We must not forget that every new housing project with $600,000 homes may not bring voters who understand or even care about afforable housing issues. Therefore those of us who do must vote together.

Because I am a dedicated and experienced reader of the documents provided to the City Council and the Planning Commission:

1. I have a grasp on what the issues are and what are the alternatives - No other candidate does.
2. I understand what are possible resolutions to many of the inherent problems, and
3. I know how to request more clarifying information as necessary.
4. I have a demonstrated record of working successfully with others for community progress.

I am analytical and resolute and I make decisions based on solid information and intellect with good judgement, because I study and prepare myself. I care about this community - our home.

I AM ANALYTICAL AND DECISIVE, UNBOUGHT AND UNBOSSED!

If I am elected, I will use all of the knowledge and experience I have gained since incorporation - twenty years ago - to work for the best of our City for all of our citizens and to preserve our environment for us and our families.

EAST PALO ALTO - THE GARDEN CAPITAL OF THE STATE!
