Michael Sweet was born in San Francisco. He earned a BA from Brandeis University and a JD from the UCLA School of Law where he twice served as president of his class. He practices law with the San Francisco firm of Murphy Sheneman Julian and Rogers.

Michael has been an active participant in his neighborhood since he and his wife purchased their home in South Beach in 1998. He has been involved with the community's discussions over the Planning Department's efforts to implement a new zoning scheme South of Market Street. Michael Sweet also serves on the following committees:

·Vice Chair of the Rincon Point/South Beach Citizens' Advisory Committee
·Brannan Street Wharf Citizens' Advisory Committee.

Michael was instrumental in ensuring that the Redevelopment Agency provide $12 million in funding for neighborhood-oriented improvements at South Beach Harbor including dedicated open-space, building improvements and the development of a community room at Pier 40.

As a neighborhood volunteer Michael played an active role in the community-driven decision process over which developer would be invited to contract with the City to build the new James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Piers 30-32.

Michael Sweet was a staff member on the 1992 presidential campaign of former Governor Jerry Brown in addition to his work on issues related to schools and quality of life issues.
