Business and Community Service Background

By Lisa (Cannon) Rodman

Candidate for Board Member; Carlsbad Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
My business background coupled with my community involvement provides a basis for strong leadership.
I worked as a national sales representative, selling a line of junior clothing to chain and department stores including Millers Outpost, Robinsons, Charlotte Russe, Burdines, Macys, and Broadway. I started her own line, "Chit Chat Clothing," in 1990 and ran the company myself until I decided to become more involved in the education process.

I learned what was successful in business and carried the same ideas to the schools.

I hold an Associate Degree in Fashion Merchandising from Orange Coast Community College and attended San Diego State University as a Business Major in 1982-83. I am currently a Communications Major at California State University, San Marcos, expecting a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spring 2005.

I keep telling my sons how important a college education is, so I knew I had to set the right example and finish up the few credits I needed for my own degree.

In addition to my intense involvement in the schools, I served on the board of my homeowner's association for 10 years, with a total of 4 years as president. I have also served on the board of North County Aquatic Boosters and Carlsbad Youth Baseball. I am involved in community events, especially acting as an advocate for a second swimming pool in the Carlsbad area.

"Swimming holds benefits for all ages. With our growing population, we just need more swim time for all of our citizens."
