Traffic

By Lori Howard

Candidate for Council Member; City of Santee

This information is provided by the candidate
There are three parts to the traffic equation
Freeways - State Route 52 has been fully funded! The bad news is that it won't be completed until 2008. The good news is- It's on schedule!

Thoroughfares - Our challenge today is enforcible speed limits. Currently, Santee has three main thoroughfares that are considered "speed traps" by the State of California. They are posted at too low of a speed (according to speed surveys). We tie the hands of our law enforcement under these circumstances, where citations written will be dismissed in court. The Santee City Council needs to give our law enforcemnt the tools they need (ie: Proper speed limits on thoroughfares) so that radar and other tools of enforcement may be permissable.

Neighborhoods - Changing attitudes. To often, we speed through neighborhoods. This effects the safety of children and the quality of life in our neighborhoods. "Kids Alive at 25" is a good start. It is, however, up to all of us to plan our commutes better and be more aware of our surroundings.
