Balance Through Proven Leadership

By Gary S. Hill

Candidate for Board Member; Carlsbad Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
A unique blend of post-secondary education work experience and business leadership will bring a new perspective to the school board.
Balance: I believe that the school board should consider issues from different perspectives in order to provide the best education to our children. This is hard to do when most of the members share similar background experiences in their interactions with the schools. I am hoping to provide a voice at the table from the employer's point of view. By looking at the bigger picture, one can see that once students complete their schooling, their greatest need becomes self-sufficiency by finding jobs and developing careers. Schools tend to view parents and students as their clients, but I would like to suggest that the business community is also a client. After the school systems have completed their work, business must pick up the life-long educational process needed to maintain employability. I feel that many opportunities exist for partnerships between our schools and our businesses, and open communication is the key to make this happen. I look forward to not only representing business on the Carlsbad School Board, but more importantly, doing so with my unique blend of executive experience in a post-secondary educational facility.
