GOVERNING PHILOSOPHY

Focus On Students:

  • Provide the highest level of education for students in all five high schools.
  • Support policies that develop the whole child, in addition to academics, such as creative-thinking, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Make decisions based on the ultimate effect of district policy on our children's learning and lives.

Work As a Team:
  • Understand that the group, not the individual, represents the Board's authority.
  • Partner with teachers, staff, administrators, parents, students, the Board and the community.
  • Foster respect and trust by governing, not by intervening or managing.

Be Accountable:
  • Review with the Board the Superintendent's goals and performance fairly and regularly.
  • Develop a clear and thorough understanding of the issues to make sound decisions.
  • Attend Board workshops on Budget, Personnel and other areas.

Foster Communication:
  • Listen objectively to the community, and share feedback with the Board.
  • Respect the differences among cultures, ethnicities, and points of view.
  • Seek feedback from groups, including those whose voices are not always heard.

GOALS & PRIORITIES

Support the Whole Child:

  • Ensure access to the best educational programs for all students, whether college-bound or career-oriented.
  • Support initiatives that allow students time to engage in extracurricular activities, the arts, and leadership so that school becomes more enjoyable.
  • Foster an environment that helps students realize their true potential so they can become contributing citizens and successful in an increasingly complex world.

Support Our Teachers & Staff:
  • Explore creative options for retention of teachers and staff.
  • Listen to the concerns of our dedicated teachers and staff, and create a dialogue based on mutual respect and trust.
  • Be sensitive to increased demands on teachers and staff resulting from expanded campuses and potential population growth.

Support Our School Sites:
  • Work with our new Superintendent to ensure that our schools are getting the leadership and administrative support they need to best educate our children.
  • Share what works among our 5 high schools in the areas of higher academic standards, career & college counseling, occupational programs, and positive school environment.
  • Advocate within the community for stronger support for public education.
