Ballot Statement

After serving 31 years as a teacher, counselor and administrator in Gilroy, four years ago I promised to use my experience to provide stability and common sense on the Board. I've done just that and feel it has been a key factor in the progress Gilroy Unified has made.

I have worked to establish budget priorities and hire a Superintendent who understands Gilroy's needs. He is leading our efforts towards improved student achievement at all levels and good results are evident. Together we've focused on excellence in instruction by retaining experienced teachers and capable administrators. A staff development plan is providing training to all staff, especially in English language learning.

We're now planning and budgeting for maintenance and equipment just like a successful business. Our teamwork approach has developed a comprehensive plan that will provide quality equal facilities at all schools.

We have built cooperative relationships with the City, resulting in their funding the gymnasium at our new middle school. This joint use is the most economical way to provide both students and adults with excellent facilities.

I pledge to continue serving all our families with dedication, expertise and integrity. You may reach me at jrogers@garlic.com or 842-8494.
