Experience:

  • Milpitas Unified School District Board of Education for 19 years
    - President, 8 years; Vice President, 6 years
    - Accountable for a $69 million dollar budget and 870 employees
    - Managed a $64.7 million dollar capital school improvement project on schedule and within budget
    - Leveraged another $33 million dollars in improvements for all schools in Milpitas
    - Utilizing $3 million dollars in interest money to renovate the athletic fields and outdoor classrooms at Milpitas High School (unused interest money must be returned)

  • Metropolitan Education District Board of Education for 6 years
    - Past President, Currently Vice President
    - MetroED is the largest career-oriented educational organization in Santa Clara County, comprised of high school and adult occupational, academic and community programs.
    - MetroED annually provides 70,000 diverse students with the skills to help them be productive, income-earning and tax-paying contributors to Silicon Valley.

  • Milpitas Community Advisory Commissioner from 1997 to present
    - Co-Chair Tree Planting Task Force drafting a "Heritage Tree Ordinance" to be presented to the Milpitas City Council
  • Milpitas Child Safety Committee from 1998 to present
  • Milpitas City/School District Monthly Communication *Committee, 1990-2001
    - Reinstated a Police Science Class at Milpitas High School in 2002
    - Obtained the funding to provide Milpitas Police Resource Officers at Russell and Ranch Middle School
    - Implemented the DARE Program for all Milpitas 5th graders in 1987
  • Milpitas Child Care Task Force from 1999-2001
    - Co-Chair with Marsha Grilli, President MUSD
    - Developed a Child Care Master Plan adoped by the Milpitas City Council
  • Vice Chair of an appointed City Council committee to forge a special dedicated developer fee to assist our schools for additional needs, i.e. school buses

Community Service:
  • 1994 Milpitas Citizen of the Year
  • Milpitas Foundation for Education, Founder/Treasurer from 1990 to present
    - Sponsored a grant for $40,250 to provide Suggested Routes to School maps and bicycle/pedestrian safety programs for children
  • Milpitas Historical Society, Past President/Founder from 1979 to present
  • 2000 Milpitas Relay for Life Chair, American Cancer Society
  • Milpitas Chamber of Commerce from 1985 to present
  • Friends of the Milpitas Library, Member
