My goals for Santa Clara Unified would continue developing a dynamic education that emphasizes practical solutions and hands on learning. We have a very diverse student population in Santa Clara with expectations from various philosophies. There is room for all these goals as parents participate in the development of the curriculum at the schools they choose for the children.

My candidacy stands for progress in these and other areas:

  • working with teachers to enhance the tools they need to accomplish the goals we have set for them.
  • enhancing parental advisory committees and school site councils that parents share the responsibility of developing and implementing new curriculum.
  • expanding the number of alternative school options in Santa Clara Unified to include foreign language immersion programs for parents who would like to choose them.
  • expanding the non-profit and corporately funded program, Businesses United in Investing, Lending and Development, (BUILD) from San Mateo to Santa Clara to help our high school students prepare for starting small businesses and understand the financial issues which will confront them throughout life.
  • engaging small businesses to establish more internships and increasing the awareness of the trades and how much they contribute to our society.

Although Santa Clara Unified is a Basic Aid district we are still impacted by the budget crunch in Sacramento. This does not necessarily mean we must cut programs, but we can find innovative ways to meet the goals and objectives we have established for our children. With your vote and my budgeting experience we can face the impending budget constraints with fiscally sound and innovative solutions.
