I have approximately 22 years of extensive civil and criminal law experience. I have handled thousand of criminal cases, I have worked as a prosecutor and a private attorney, and trained and supervised other attorneys.

I have a reputation for treating others fairly and with respect. "Arthur Bocanegra has the character, integrity and experience to make an excellent Judge." Jerome Nadler, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge.

Over 40 Judges have publicly endorsed me for Superior Court Judge, Seat No. 9. I am also endorsed by the Santa Clara County Deputy Sheriffs Association, the California Retired Peace Officers Association, the California Organization of Police and Sheriffs, and the Santa Clara County Firefighters Association. [See full endorsement list] I am certified by the State Bar of California as a specialist in the area of Criminal Law.

Before entering private practice as a named partner in the Law firm of Nakano, Sugihara & Bocanegra, I worked with the County for 7 years as a government attorney with the Public Defender's Office. I also worked as an attorney with the San Jose City Attorney's Office. I have been in private practice for the past 14 years. I have taken over a hundred cases to trial.

I am an experienced trial attorney, who understands the importance of keeping our community safe and that violent crimes should not be tolerated. My commitment to the safety of our community and the rights of victims earned me the endorsement of Law Enforcement. However, I understand and support treatment programs and rehabilitation for nonviolent drug offenders, minor offenders and the mentally ill.

I am 49 years old. My wife, Deborah, is a Neonatal critical care R.N. We have been happily married for 27 years and we have two children. Our daughter, Lauren, is 17 years and my son, Aaron, is 15 years old. We enjoy camping, hiking, and attending athletic events. I have coached youth sports and I was an Assistant Scoutmaster.
