Born and raised in the Imperial County of California. Graduated from Central Union High School in El Centro, Ca. Then joined the United Sates Army and became a paratrooper and a soldier in the Army Corp of Engineers. Serving three years on active duty and the last one in Seoul, Korea. After receiving an Honorable discharge in 1992, he then moved to San Luis Obispo, Ca. At that point, he started his education and graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He Received a Bachelors of Agricultural Business Management. Gilbert has been involved with agriculture and 4-h all his life.
