Personal Background

My wife and I moved to Folsom over 15 years ago from Southern California, where I served as a Fire Fighter/Paramedic. I have operated a small business in the City of Folsom, at the same location, since 1987.

Organizations, Committees, and Memberships

In addition to my duties as your City Council Member, I also serve as a Director for the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG). I was honored by that organization when I was elected to serve as Chair for the year 2001. I am the co-founder of the Sacramento Area Cities Forum. This organization brings the Mayors of Sacramento cities together, with the Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors, to gather and discuss specific regional issues, and look for appropriate solutions.

I have also served as the Chairman of the Folsom Traffic Safety Committee, the Folsom/ El Dorado County Joint Powers Authority and a Director of the Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA).

Shortly after opening my office, I became involved with the Folsom Historical Society; the Rotary Club of Folsom; the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, and the Folsom Little League. My participation and work in sponsoring and promoting senior and youth sports and programs in Folsom has grown with each year. I co-founded the Mayors Cup Golf Tournament; served the past two years as co-chair of the Vlade Divac Youth Basketball Camp; assisted in securing the necessary funding to open the award winning Folsom Aquatic Center, and found the revenue necessary to start the senior shuffleboard program. Additionally as Mayor, I created the "Art in the Mayors Office" which allowed all schools in Folsom to highlight works created by local students, and display them in the Mayors office.

Council History

  • Originally elected to the Folsom City Council in 1994, and re-elected in 1998

  • Vice Mayor from December 1995 through December 1997

  • Elected as Mayor in December 1997 through December 1999

  • Re-elected as Mayor in February 2000 through December 2001

Achievement Highlights

  • Staffing levels in the current fire stations have been increased, and we recently opened a new fire station. Twelve new fire fighters were hired to operate this station.

  • Additional traffic enforcement officers have been hired to help manage the tremendous amount of cars that pass through our city from other areas. We continue to put more police officers on the streets and in our schools.

  • In the past eight years, I have represented the City of Folsom in its efforts from Sacramento to Washington D.C., on issues such as the Mather Field over flights, the Folsom Dam bridge project, and have secured over $20 million dollars in state and federal funds for community infrastructure improvements.

  • I have worked to identify, obtain, and allocate funding to relieve traffic congestion in our city through projects such as the Lake Natoma Crossing, the Riley St. extension and improved interchanges and carpool lanes on Highway 50. I have also served as lead to secure a new bridge to alleviate traffic on Folsom Dam.

  • I worked hard in bringing new job opportunities to Folsom, while at the same time ensuring that we retain and expand on the ones we already have.

  • As Mayor, I was proud when the City accepted over 80 acres of donated permanent open space. This was a significant achievement since almost 70% of this land had been targeted for development. We were also successful in negotiating a solution to save the beautiful oak grove of trees that are south of Highway 50.
