One of most import issues of this campaign is the relationship between the City of Lake Elsinore and EVMWD. As a result of the shared management of the Lake and certain individuals on both boards in the past the relationship between the two entities have been strained and at time downright nasty. There has been very little respect between the Directors but that will hopefully change as a result of this election.

Power Lines: The routing of the SDGE power line's between Menifee and Rainbow has been a point of contention as the route of last resort will bring the lines along the Cleveland National Forest on the West boundary of District #3. Although there is very little being said about this right now, there may be high level legislation in process that will force the line right in our own back yard.

Finding long term sources of drinking water.

Although most people would not be concerned until their spigots run dry, there is a federal order for Calif. to adopt a plan to curb it use of Colorado River water by Dec 31, 2002. There is a threat by the Interior Department to cut the states supply of river water by up to 800,000 acre-feet per year. This is enough drinking water to service 1.6 million households a year. If the current drought affecting 48 states continues a few more years, this will become a issue of great concern.

We must continue with the existing program to provide re-cycled water for Lake Elsinore in order to maintain a respectable lake level. New and better source of re-cycled water must be located.

We must attempt to hold down long term water rates.

Currently in district #3 over one third of the ratepayer households do not have sewer services. This cannot continue indefinitely and a plan must be developed to provide adequate sewer services to this segment of the population. The antiquated system of septic and leach lines must be change if we are going to preserve the pristine water in our shrinking aquifers.
