Putting Public Safety First

Upon election, one of Jimıs top priorities was to have 24-hour law enforcement dispatching locally, instead of from Riverside, in order to improve response time. This was accomplished by mid-1998. Jim was also instrumental in increasing Palm Desert's Public Safety budget by 60 percent. This was done to beef up community policing, enhance traffic enforcement and provide school safety. Currently he is working on the expansion of Palm Desert's Police Station. Jim is committed to having the best possible public safety in Palm Desert. You can monitor Palm Desert's efforts in community safety at http://www.palmdesertpolice.org.

Revitalizing Neighborhoods

Palm Desert takes an active role in caring for its neighborhoods. The City has provided the highest quality affordable housing with the Desert Rose development. With Jim on the Council, the City took control of 725 apartment units to improve management. Jim has also taken an active role in under-grounding residential utility lines to beautify neighborhoods and improve property values. Jim and the City are committed to providing a clean, safe community to livein.

Stimulating Economic Growth

Palm Desert made a commitment five years ago toward regional economic development through the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP). As a board member on CVEP, Jim has been expanding trade opportunities with Mexico and aggressively recruiting clean technologies to the Coachella valley, but he points out not all of this has to occur within our City limits. Over the last five years CVEPıs efforts have generated over $50 Million to the local economy. Because of Jimıs leadership, the Coachella Valley is well on its way to securing a third leg to its economic base.
