Chuck Dunn: Campaign Statement

By Chuck Dunn

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Jurupa Unified School District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate
I am the qualified candidate for the Jurupa Unified School Board. I have been the proud owner of Rebel Sports since 1988 and a former teacher of the district for thirteen years. I received my Bachelor of Science at Cal State Los Angeles and a Master of Business from Cal Poly Pomona. I also hold four valid teaching credentials for life.
I have lived and participated in the Jurupa Community for 23 years now. I am the founder of the "Stop Tagging Our Property" organization, which has been instrumental in getting kids to help clean graffiti. I am also a member of T.A.S.K; Team Advocate for Special Kids, in addition to being a member of the Jurupa Mountain Culture Club. I founded "I Love Schools Without Drugs", an active organization throughout the district. Through the use of peer pressure, it has assisted in suppressing the rising tendency of many young people to experiment with and become hooked on drugs.
I feel American public schools use their resources inefficiently. I believe we must ensure that the district money will be effectively spent on students. Only 1% of our lottery funds goes directly to the students. I also support no new taxes, and believe the 8.4 million dollar administration building did not help students. A safe drop off area is needed at all schools, as well as computer registration programs that work.
We must teach students the fundamental skills necessary to succeed. Our kids must learn how to learn and master technology to succeed in the job market. I favor programs that would teach the non-college bound kids a trade to enter the job market.
I have donated thousands of dollars through my business, Rebel Skate, to the Annual Jurupa Christmas Party. I have also supported both the Mira Loma and Jurupa Valley Pageant contestants. We have also sponsored many AYSO, travel ball and baseball teams. We support band programs and choir programs at both high schools, as well as most sports at both high schools. We support many other programs by donating gift certificates for awards nights, for both academic and athletic teams.
Hobbies: My hobbies include gold mining, white water rafting, surfing, skateboarding, chess, kayaking, and hiking.

I am there for your kids! Vote Nov. 5th, 2002
