NO HOME DEPOT...YES ON THE HIGH SCHOOL

By Joe Soto

Candidate for Council Member; City of San Juan Capistrano; 2 Year Short Term

This information is provided by the candidate
My feelings on the Home Depot project and Whispering Hills Development as they appeared in the Capistrano Valley News
Question #1 # "As a citizen, how will you vote Nov. 5 on Measure CC, which asks voters if the rezoning of 356 acres of property known as Whispering Hills Estates from a growth management district to a planned community providing for 175 homes and a high school shouldbe approved? A yes vote is for the project, a no vote is opposed."

Answer #1 #

I support Measure CC because I feel the development has met and surpassed all compliance set forth by the Planning Commission and City Council. It's not right to hold the badly needed high school hostage. The Whispering Hills Development, Capistrano Unified School District and City of San Juan must each keep up their end of the agreement.

Question #2 # "As a citizen, how will you vote on the advisory vote, Measure DD, which is asking voters if the San Juan Capistrano Redevelopment Agency should sell 13.22 acres located north of Stonehill Drive between the railroad tracks and San Juan Creek to the Home Depot for $9 million?"

Answer #2 #

I am opposed to building a Home Depot in San Juan Capistrano. It will significantly increase our already congested traffic areas and will hurt local business. The negative impacts to our residents living in the area will be permanent. Our quality of life should not be compromised in an effort to increase revenue for a global corporation.
