This information is provided by the candidate

1. The Land of Gracious Living: Mark Schwing is proud of our City and the way it looks. He has worked to maintain its semi-rural atmosphere and beautiful landscaping. He has consistently voted against high density projects not envisioned by the General Plan while supporting starter housing for our young couples and specialized projects for our growing population of senior citizens.

2. The Need for Additional Schools: Mark Schwing called for and chaired the first ever joint City Council-School Board meeting. He recognizes that new development and population growth can have an impact on elementary, middle school and high school facilities within Yorba Linda. He knows students cannot learn to their fullest in crowded classrooms. He has worked with the school district officials to develop joint use facilities such as those at Bryant Ranch, Travis Ranch, Yorba Linda Middle School and the Tommy Lasorda, Jr. Fieldhouse. Mark will continue to work with school district officials to evaluate the need for additional schools in our City. He knows how to use the long-term financing capabilities of the Yorba Linda Redevelopment Agency to develop new joint use facilities in cooperation with the school district.

3. Keeping Our Community Safe: The first priority of local government should be public safety. Mark Schwing will continue working to keep Yorba Linda's crime rate among the lowest in Orange County. An ardent supporter of contracting with the Brea Police Department to provide police services for Yorba Linda, he strongly advocated opening the Police Sub-Station within our City and will work to further expand its services to our community.

4. Hard Work, Experience and Fairness: Mark Schwing is a 1963 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis. He retired as a Commander, having served over twenty years in the submarine force. Following a second career as an aerospace program manager, Mark now operates his own small business, Electronic Model Systems, in Yorba Linda. His leadership and business background has brought a wealth of experience to the Yorba Linda City Council. His fairness to all on every issue has set an example for others to follow. Mark is fiscally conservative by nature.

5. Planning for Our Future: Mark Schwing worked to bring us four new parks and many improvements to others, the Tommy Lasorda Jr. Fieldhouse, our wonderful Community Center, and the new Black Gold Golf Course. Mark recognized the need for additional youth sports fields and led the effort to purchase and build the East Side Sports Complex. He is a supporter of the arts and theater groups. Mark supports a skate park within Yorba Linda.

6. Community Involvement: Mark Schwing is a former member of the United Way Finance Committee and a member of the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce. He is the president of his homeowners association. In the past he served as president of the north Orange County organizations of the United Way and American Heart Association. He worked to bring in new businesses such as the 35 acre Savi Ranch shopping center which now includes Home Depot, Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Thomasville Furniture, Michael's, Chick's Sporting Goods, Lay-z-Boy, Home Consignment Center, TGI Fridays, Carl's Jr., Leather Center, Wahoo's Fish Tacos. He also worked to bring more resturants and stores into the Eastlake shopping center as well as the Town Center Area, all to broaden the city's sales tax base and improve the overall quality of life in Yorba Linda.

7. Council Service: Mark Schwing believes that public servants should be just that - servants of the public, not puppets of special interest groups. Mark's allegiance is to the citizens of Yorba Linda and not the special interest groups. During his first term he returned his entire City Council salary to support drug education through the D.A.R.E. program and to support the Adventure Playground. He has no plans to seek higher office.
