Hello, this is Richard Rios and I want to thank you for visiting the League of Women voter's site. I became actively involved after seeing several issues that were not being addressed by the current board.

One of these issues is community involvement. The current board has chosen to build a new school adjacent to an existing residential area without, in my opinion, actively pursuing the opinions or hearing the concerns of those who will be directly affected.

While it is true the Board held meetings on this matter, I feel that an issue of this magnitude deserved a mail, phone call, or local cable spot notification so that all would be aware of these hearings.

As I became more involved, my passion to ensure the well being of our children ignited as I reviewed the following issues.

IMPORTANT ISSUES

Why was a land deal accepted from a developer to build a school for our children that was unacceptable due to environmental concerns?

How will the approximate $14,000,000 cost to buy additional land affect all residents?

I will work closely with parents, senior citizens and residents that do not have children to insure that all the residents of Brea are heard when considering location and funding options.

Why did the current school board president misrepresent facts to the City Council when he was asked for clarification on his statements?

Where is the missing $11,000,000 the school board president claims to have already received for the school district in his candidacy statement?

What message are we sending children with these misstatements?

Brea schools have been ranked among the best in the state. I will work hard to insure that our kids continue to receive the best education possible.

Even if you do not have children in our schools, these issues affect you and your taxes. Vote for Richard Rios and I will protect you and our children's interests.
