Candidate Statement

By Joseph Pak

Candidate for Council Member; City of Garden Grove

This information is provided by the candidate
NAME: JOSEPH PAK AGE: 50 OCCUPATION: COMMUNITY RELATIONS DIRECTOR
I believe in public service. America and our City have been good to me and my family. To me, nothing is more noble than helping others. I want to serve as your councilman and work hard to make Garden Grove a great place to live, work and raise a family. I want to use my talent and commitment to keep our neighborhoods safe, promote a strong economy, and improve our schools.

Thirty-two years ago, I immigrated to America. I worked hard to support my family and make my contribution to our community. I have worked for Pacific Bell for 24 years and am currently the Director of External Affairs. I graduated from USC and earned an MBA degree at the University of Phoenix.

Giving back to our community, through public service, is my way to thank America for all the opportunity she has given me. I am currently serving my second year as a member at California State Rehabilitation Council and serving as a member of the Special Needs Advisory Committee of the OCTA. Since education is important to me, it gives me great satisfaction to serve the Coastline Community College Foundation. As a businessman, I also serve as a board member for the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce.

My wife and I recently celebrated our 24-year anniversary and remain active in our church. We have three grown children, daughters Sabrina, Jessica and youngest son, Gregory. I am a member of the Garden Grove Rotary Club, Sister City Association of Garden Grove, and associate board at Acacia Adult Day Services. I also serve as an Advisor to the Orange County Office on Aging and the Korean Chamber of Commerce.

As your councilman, I want to build consensus around important issues and help address pressing challenges. I will:

  • Ensure your safety by supporting our police, fire, and public works departments;
  • Promote your property investment by fixing our roads and beautifying our neighborhoods;
  • Support youth and older citizen projects;
  • Protect residents through monitoring and implementing traffic safety;
  • Protect residents by strictly enforcing noise ordinances;
  • Support businesses that will bring needed revenue to our city;
  • Control expenses, and increase reserves, Manage good government;
  • Establish office hours so you will always have access to your city council.
