Communication, Understanding and Compassion

By Jerry A. Grunor

Candidate for Council Member; City of Dana Point

I know what it takes to bring understanding and compassion to the residents
Knowing that it takes communication, understanding and compassion, as a growing city, my experience will enable us to focus on our partnering for its future success. It is not how many ideas you have...but rather, it is how many you make happen.

As a candidate running independently, I have no ties with any builder or developer as many of the other candidates do. I have not solicited nor have received any funding from any developer, but rather small donations from the residents. It is my contention, that as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of the Library, the Historical and Lighthouse Societies, the Festival of Whales Committee, the Monarch Beach Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, I am happy to say that my participation in these groups have enabled me to know most of the issues in our town and how it affects each and every resident.

When a Home Depot was coming to Stonehill, I was called upon to call Town Hall Meetings and educate the people of the projected traffic problems that would arise, the noise, the pollution, the lights at night, and the obstacles that were presented in the EIR. Now, the issue will be presented to the residents as a referendum and this will not pass by the majority of the people.

When the people complained about closure of certain streets, I stood up before the city council and asked them to listen to the people and understand the problems that would arise. The council voted against closure of streets.

When the senior citizens needed public buses to take them to the community centers and medical offices, I approached OCTA and requested buses. Now, in October, OCTA will present two buses to Dana Point for the senior citizens.

As a communicator, and a believer in teamwork, I have the ability to listen to all of our residents, and I look to bring this kind of communication to Dana Point.
