Richard T. Dixon

Richard T. Dixon was elected to the inaugural Lake Forest City Council in March 1991. Currently, he is serving as Mayor Lake Forest. During his tenure as Council Member, he served as Mayor Pro Tem in 1994, 1998, and 2001, and Mayor in 1995, 1996, 2000 and 2002.

Mayor Dixon serves the citizens of Lake Forest in many capacities. He led the fight against the airport as a founding board member of the El Toro Reuse Planning Authority (ETRPA). Dixon has served as Chairman of ETRPA, a 12-city agency that has opposes an international airport at the former El Toro Marine Base and currently serves as a Board Member. He is also a representative to the Orange County Fire Authority and alternate representative to the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency.

Mayor Dixon holds several positions in the Southern California Association of Governments: Regional Council Board Member; member of the Transportation and Communication, Growth Visioning and Strategic Planning Committees; Vice Chair of the Administration Committee; and Chair of the Highways Task Force. Mayor Dixon is also the immediate past President of the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities, Orange County Division Representative to the Regional Board of LOCAL (Leave our Community Assets Local), Grass Roots Advisory Board Member and a Member of the Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee. He is past Chairman and current Board Member of the Orange County Council of Governments (COG).

Mayor Dixon is an advocate for business. He has been in the insurance business since 1975 and started his own health insurance agency in 1987. In 1993, he was awarded the Small Business of the Year Award. He is a member of the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce and the South Orange County Chambers of Commerce. In addition to supporting business, Mayor Dixon participates in many volunteer organizations, including the Crisis Assistance Program and Partners in Caring.
