Candidate's Statement

By Sherri M. Butterfield

Candidate for Council Member; City of Mission Viejo

This information is provided by the candidate
Thank you for selecting me to represent you on the Mission Viejo City Council in 1998. Working together, we

made Mission Viejo the safest large city in California by putting more Orange County Sheriff's deputies on our streets;

maintained a balanced city budget while increasing our municipal reserves to nearly $19 million;

prevented Orange County Supervisors from converting MCAS El Toro into a commercial airport;

created the award-winning, family-friendly Florence Joyner Olympiad Park from 17 undeveloped acres;

significantly expanded the Mission Viejo Library to better serve our 92,000 children, students, business people, and senior who use it regularly;

transformed the aging Mission Viejo Mall into a retail showplace whose sales tax revenues support our municipal services;

protected Mission Viejo from escalating rent payments and proviced its residents with a true Civic Center by building a City Hall on time and within budget.

As a seven-year member of the Orange County Fire Authority Board of Directors, I have worked hard to make the third-largest fire department in California one of the best prepared and most responsive in the nation.

Over the next four years, I will work in partnership with you to enhance the quality of life we enjoy in Mission Viejo.

For proven leadership, vote for Sherri Butterfield!
