Biographical Highlights
  • Occupation: Retired Computer Designer
  • 1943 Graduated, Newport Harbor High School.
  • 1950 Graduated, Caltech.
  • 1978-1982 Newport Beach Planning Commissioner.
  • 1977 Helped Jean Watt write the Traffic Phasing Ordnance (praised by both sides as an excellent traffic control measure).
  • 1986 Led the referendum that prevented three additional office towers, and kept 40,000 cars per day off City streets.
  • 1999 Wrote Greenlight, which requires voter approval for any major changes to the General Plan. (Adopted by 63% vote.)
Top Priorities if Elected
  • To answer each question the way the voters would answer, if it were on the ballot.
  • To find public consensus on how to balance congestion vs. wide highways, overpasses, etc.
  • Now that growth is over, to develop a steady-state fiscal plan for a trim City government.
