It has been an honor to serve on the City Council.

By John Beauman

Candidate for Council Member; City of Brea

This information is provided by the candidate
Being unanimously appointed to the City Council from a field of 14 qualified candidates, I consider it a great honor to have been chosen to serve on the Council.
First, I want to thank so many Breans for their positive feedback during this initial year on the City Council, and for the confidence they have expressed in me. Getting to know so many fine people and working with the other Council Members and City staff has been a very rewarding experience. I feel blessed in having the opportunity to do so. Being unanimously appointed to the City Council from a field of 14 very fine candidates, including former concilmembers, I consider it a great honor and privilege to have been chosen to serve on the Council. As I stated when officially taking my Council seat last November, and holding steadfast since, I will continue to do my best to serve this community with honor and integrity. I am pleased to say that I have been impressed with the caliber of City management and staff, the overall efficiency of the organization, and its dedication to the community and people of Brea through a philosophy of "customer care." There have been many important milestones that I have had the opportunity to participate in since joining the Council: as a fiscal conservative -- because its your money -- I supported the establishment of a fiscally responsible "Fixed Asset Replacement Program" (FARP) as a practical, common sense means of budgeting for the maintenance and replacement of city assets in a systematic manner. The FARP is a carefully thought out program, developed and managed by highly professional members of our financial staff. This approach is being used successfully by other cities as a prudent means of managing tax dollars. In regard to preserving the quality of life of all Breans, I understand the importance and legal standing of private property rights, but will continue to insist on responsible development that is consistent with Brea's General Plan and hillside management standards. Hillside development, like all development must be compliant with our codes and standards, and must be consistent with this community's vision and values. It must also carefully take into consideration traffic and infrastructure. We must have the vision, wisdom and determination to acquire and preserve open space for future generations of Breans. In addition, I'm committed to public safety as demonstrated by the "enthusiastic endorsement" of the Brea Police Association, along with completion of the Sports Park to provide safe recreation for our youth and a sense of community for their families that will also accommodate those Brea teams that must now go elsewhere to play. I have the endorsement of many community leaders including Congressmen Ed Royce and Gary Miller, Senator Dick Ackerman, Assemblywoman Lynn Daucher, Mayor Marty Simonoff, Mayor Pro Tem Bev Perry, former mayors Don Fox and Glenn Parker, retired Police Chief Bill Lentini, as well as several commissioners and community leaders; and now I am asking for your vote on November 5th.
