| Arguments For Measure F |
|
Residents of Strawberry Circle have experienced flooding for
many decades. The worst: severe rainstorms in January 1982 and
extremely high tides in December 1983. It is grim to watch water
rise in the street, fill your yard & flow into your living room,
bedroom, kitchen and garage. You cannot stop it. And you never
forget it.
After 30+ years of our petitioning Marin County for assistance, Supervisor Annette Rose and the Department of PublicWorks (DPW) have offered a plan for Strawberry Circle residents: The County will pay for the design and installation of an underground pump station if we will pay for its future costs. The control panel will be located behind 35 & 37 Strawberry Circle and will be above ground with minimal visual intrusion. This station is designed to automatically pump storm water during high tides and will greatly reduce risks of flooding in our neighborhood. The Board of Supervisors has amended the boundaries of Flood Zone District Four to include us and move forward with the plan upon passage of Measure F. The new wording of Measure F guarantees that the pump will be built if we pass the Measure. The legally binding "Resolution" by the Board of Supervisors guarantees our tax money back if it has not been built within five years. Without Measure F our current portable pump system requires a worker from DPW to attend the pump when needed. Last winter neighbors had to call 911 to have the pumps started on a Saturday. It is our belief that Strawberry Circle property values will be positively affected Measure F. In addition, compare the Measure's cost to the deductible on your flood insurance! If we do not agree to pass the Measure, we will lose our best opportunity in decades to effectively prevent floods. s/ Joan Resnikoff s/ Bruce A.
