Smart Voter Full Biography for Jim Perrine

Candidate for
Mayor; City of Marina

This information is provided by the candidate

Jim obtained a degree in Engineering from Porterville College, possesses a license as a General Engineering Contractor, and is employed by the City of Hollister. He is now serving as Utility Manager, overseeing the operations and conducting the facilities planning for the municipal water and sewer systems.

Mr. Perrine has served as an elected official in the City of Marina since 1988 when he was appointed to the Marina Water Board. During the years of 1989 and 1990 the Water Board elected Jim to be the Board President. In November of 1990 he was elected to the Marina City Council. He served eight years as a Council Member, and was chosen to be the Mayor Pro Tem during four of those years. Mr. Perrine maintains an active involvement both in his profession and the community of Marina. He is a 1999 graduate of the League of California Cities Leadership Academy.

His professional commitments include:

  • American Public Works Association Monterey Bay Chapter (1996 President)
  • Advisory Committee, Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District

His prior community leadership services include:
  • Captain - Marina Volunteer Firefighters
  • Marina Public Safety "Volunteer Firefighter of the Year" (1987)
  • President, Marina Youth Soccer Association (1987)

In November 1998 Mr. Perrine was elected by the citizens of Marina to the position of Mayor, and in 2000 he was re-elected.

Jim's board memberships as the Mayor of Marina currently include:

  • Fort Ord Reuse Authority (2001 & 2002 as Chair)
  • Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (President 2000 & 2001)
  • League of California Cities Transportation, Communications and Public Works Policy Committee (2001 & 2002 as Chair)
  • League of California Cities Smart Growth Subcommittee
  • Monterey Bay Division, League of California Cities (1999 President, 2002 President-elect)
  • Monterey Regional Waste Management District

Mr. Perrine has previously served as a borad member for: Region M Criminal Justice Planning, Monterey-Salinas Transit Agency, and the Transportation Agency of Monterey County.
