Smart Voter Full Biography for Hank Goldberg

Candidate for
Judge of the Superior Court; County of Los Angeles; Office 2

This information is provided by the candidate

I have over 16 years of experience as an attorney. I have been a criminal prosecutor with the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for over 15 years. I became a prosecutor when I was 22 years old, the youngest prosecutor in the office's history. I also practiced civil law for one year with what was then one of California's largest and most prestigious law firms.

I have prosecuted some of the best known and most serious cases in the District Attorney's Office in recent years. My trials include the Simpson case and numerous other serious and violent crimes including murder, rape, domestic violence, robbery and many others.

The Los Angeles County Bar rated me "well qualiified," the highest possible rating.

Currently, I am assigned to the District Attorney's Office Training Division. I train prosecutors and others in the legal community at both the local and national level. I have lectured and published extensively on a wide range of legal topics.

To better serve the community, I learned how to speak fluent Spanish by taking immersion courses in several Spanish speaking countries. This experience has not only helped me be more effective as a representative of our community, but has also contributed to my understanding and enjoyment of other cultures.

As to my professional abilities please consider the following quotes from my personnel file:

"It should be noted that well-respected judges who have seen Hank argue and try a case comment that he is among the best in the office, and I definitely agree." (Performance Evaluation 7/1/98)

"He is highly regarded as an outstanding advocate by the other members of the criminal justice community." (Appraisal of Promotability Committee 7/13/97)

"The People of the State of California could not have asked for a finer advocate or representative on their behalf.... I came to know Mr. Goldberg to be an outstanding trial lawyer -- and importantly -- an outstanding individual of character and integrity." (William ("Bill") Hodgman 5/6/97)
