Opinions on what needs to be accomplished in the new Valley City
Many supporters of a Valley city say local control will lead to more efficient government, better services and higher quality of life. I believe that having a new Valley City will do all of the above. The citizens of the valley have been paying their taxes to the City of Los Angeles since the 1910's and we do not feel that we have been getting the proper amount of representation or tax payer dollars back into the valley. I see a tremendous opportunity to adhere to the needs of the people of the valley. We need to start by securing the vital services for the city (police, fire, water and power). From there, we will need to build new city services (trash pickup, street maintenance, parks and rec, library). We will set up the proper system to respond to the citizen in a reasonable amount of time across the valley and not allow the citizens to feel that the government is not theirs. The mid term vision is to work with business to come to the valley and bring employment to the valley. We also need to stimulate re-defining or re-inventing areas of the valley to become more successful for the businesses in those areas. My longer term vision is to develop the arts and entertainment sector to have people from outside of the valley to want to come to the valley and think of the valley as a leader in those areas.
