Improved Communication

By David S. Stromberg

Candidate for Board Member; Lafayette School District

This information is provided by the candidate
More Lafayette residents, especially Lafayette School District parents, need to be apprised of issues before the Governing Board.
A primary reason our real estate values in Lafayette are higher than in some of our neighboring towns is because of the reputation of the Lafayette School District and the excellent education our students receive. There is vurtually nothing that increases the value of our real property investment as much as ensuring that the quality of our District's education is unsurpassed.

Lafayette citizens, especially parents of students in the Lafayette School District, must be kept fully apprised of issues that the Governing Board is tackling. We have the Contra Costa Sun providing a synopsis of what transpired at a Board meeting, but we need more than that. Lafayette citizens need to know in advance of the Board meeting what issues are being explored or voted upon, and have some direct input into the process before the Board takes action.

I propose that the agenda for Board meetings be published and disseminated to the Contra Costa Sun and placed in every student's "Friday folder" to ensure that the public receives better notification. I also intend, as a Governing Board member, to hold a scheduled meeting on the second Tuesday after/before a Board meeting in a predetermined location where all Lafayette citizens know they can come to ask questions or voice their opinions on issues affecting their children or their property values.

With improved communication, every Lafayette citizen will recognize that they truly are an integral part of the process of governing the Lafayette School District.
