I am a Bay Area native, born and raised in San Francisco. I have lived in Contra Costa County for over 30 years and have been a Pleasant Hill resident for almost 6 years. I am happily married to Dawn Block. We have two grown sons and two teen-age daughters. Our youngest daughter, Lindsay, is a junior at College Park High School.

I am a graduate of the University of California School of Optometry where I received my Bachelor of Science, Master of Optometry, Doctor of Optometry, and Master of Science degrees. I received a Juris Doctor degree from John F. Kennedy University School of Law. I am an Associate Dean and Clinical Professor at the University of California School of Optometry.

I have been active in community affairs and public service for over 25 years. I am Chair of the Pleasant Hill Planning Commission and served as Acting Chair of the City's General Plan Task Force. I am active in the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of Rodgers Ranch, the Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library, and the Pleasant Hill Senior Center. I support the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation. My wife and I were instrumental in building the new track at College Park High School. Before moving to Pleasant Hill, I served on the Moraga Town Council.

I was Chair of the Contra Costa County Medi-Cal Advisory Planning Commission. I am a founding member and Past Chair of the Contra Costa County Managed Care Commission. I've had extensive experience in professional and governmental activities. I'm a published author. I've lectured throughout the world on various topics in the eye care field. I've received numerous honors for my professional activities.

Most importantly, I am a devoted husband and father, and a caring, hard-working member of our community. I insist on open, publicly accessible government. As your Councilmember, I will listen to your concerns and be a voice of reason for all Pleasant Hill residents.
