In 2000, John was appointed to the Newark Sister City Advisory Committee. In the same year, he took on the leadership role as the tournament chairperson for The League of Volunteer's Annual Frank Sisk Classic Golf Tournament, raising over $10,000 for LOV's summer programs for Tri-City kids this year. John is also the former host of "Line of Fire," a political talk show which aired on Newark's Channel 27.

After the terrorist attacks on 9-11, John was called to active-duty, where he served his state and nation in support of Operation Noble Eagle, as a member of Joint Task Force Aerosafe, Team SFO, at San Francisco International Airport, and was the recipient of the California Commendation Medal.
